DONNELLY WINS JAX TYRES AND AUTO SUPER THUNDER IN DRAMATIC FASION

NEWS, PRO NEWS, SPORTSMAN NEWS | 15 Apr 2023 |

Jake Donnelly won Pro Alcohol in dramatic fashion on Saturday night, taking a holeshot win in the Final of Pro Alcohol over Championship leader Steve Read by only 5 thousandths of a second, only to have his parachutes fail to blossom in after the finish line and end up with the car hard into the Willowbank Raceway catch net.

Donnelly was uninjured in the accident and climbed from the car with his usual trademark smile, despite his front running car being significantly damaged in the incident - a spectacular way to pick up his first ever event win.

The accident brought an end to the night with only Top Fuel Funny Car left to run in the schedule, with the Winners trophy for the category going to Morice McMillin and the Runner Up to Adam Murrihy.

It was an unfortunate end to a spectacular day’s racing which saw a stellar 4.88 in round one from McMillin in the Aeroflow Top Fuel Funny Car, as well as Murrihy making a statement about his intentions in Top Fuel Funny Car with a string of solid performances. With the win, McMillin moves two points clear of his teammate Brandon Gosbell in the Top Fuel Funny Car Championship.

Pro Stock was a family affair, with Aaron Tremayne extending his championship lead with an incredible 6.96 in the final round – which doubled as low Elapsed time of the event for the category. Tremayne was undefeated throughout the day and he has stretched his lead over Brian Pursell in the Glass Trade Centre Pro Stock by a significant margin. Championship #2 Brian Pursell had a difficult weekend, and was unable to present for the final round of racing where he was scheduled to take on Scott Porter.

Chris Matheson Was the Victor in top bike, with the Nitro Voodoo Rider racing to a string of 6.3 second runs over Andrew Badcock.
